Have you tried no filter socks. Cheto is happier. Corals get natural food and rest skimmed iut. I have oversized skimmer as first responder.

Rather have filter socks and no Chaeto. I took most of my Chaeto out in favor of dragons breath. It's slower growing and easier to manage. Once I get a bunch I'm removing my cheato all together.

You consider it desirable to grow slower and hence take up less N and P?

If that was desired, couldn't you just light the chaeto less?

There is no best way.

Many ways work, and every one of them has pros and cons.

I used all of these at the same time:

GFO
macroalgae
rock filled refugia
vinegar dosing
GAC
skimmer
water changes

That is technically a very easy solution to my current issue, one that no one has mentioned till now.

I run my macro reactor inverse to my primary display for the theoretical pH balance benefits. I find the data graphing from Apex pretty rough for me to check pH peaks/troughs based on photoperiod

I practice heavy in heavy out.
I run an oversize skimmer 9430dc and it keeps no3 at <5. Previous 9410 worked for almost 2 years then no3 went to 20.

For po4 I run gfo and have a 30g remote fuge. Since setting up the fuge I use 2/3 rds less po4 reducing media and it last 15-21 days no as opposed to 3-4 before the fuge.
I like Ogo and cheato. DB grows to slow but looks cool as I have some.

I also run carbon 24/7, about 2/3 cup of rox.
I change filter socks every 3 days.

Basically, I feel like leveling up in the filtration part of my tank. I'd thought about pluming a sump because the there's not too much space in the back. I had made this tread because I was wonder if I should even go the sump method. If I do, I just wondering what my main powerhouse would be down there. But seeing (by the man himself) that there is no "best" method, and it comes down to wants and needs, then I guess I'm satisfied. If I go with the sump, I'll probably use a skimmer and refuge, (and water changes?) I honestly feel I should just upgrade my tank at that rate, but I can always reuse the sump on a new tank. So, I'm very sorry for the confusion or if I had caused problems of sort. Thanks for the help! Much appreciated.

Upgrade and keep the AOI for QT or frag system. That way, you can tinker with ALL the various nutrient management methods.
