what is the difference?

I have some pink zippers for almost 6 months and still today no new polyps, everything else grows fine so... that may be the case but yea like everyone else is saying it looks great! IMHO I don't think it's a bowser the pattern looks a little off compared to nano fins pic

yeah well i have had this polyp for 4-5 months and no new polyps.
Looks like what you have there is a CAO...they grow almost as slow as Bowsers. And if you have a CAO that grows like CARs then you have an "Ultra" CAR, which is the nicest strain of CARs.Ive seen a lot if people selling what they call CAOs in the past year, vendors and hobbyist alike, and I laugh because I see people buying them up thinking they got the real deal. And that's not a problem as long as they are happy with it.What rubs me the wrong way is misinformed people misinforming others...If you didn't get a CAO from Brandon at Zoanthids or from someone who got it around they same time it was imported then most likely you don't have a CAO.There's a difference between people who likes to buy polyps and "collectors".Reason I say that is because I see a lot of newer "collectors" who get caught up in the "hype" and buy up the hottest polyps out just to say they have it or for monetary purposes whatever the case may be.Unless you've been around for a few years and have seen what's came through here like some true collectors here have then all you are doing is feeding the "hype" and getting fooled for your money but hey if you are happy with it then that's all that matters. To true collectors lineage and authenticity means everything.

To simply answer your question, its not a Bowser.I'm not here to defend a polyp or offend anyone. To be honest , I don't even really care.I know what I know and that's all I need to know.I'm just telling it the way it is..

thanks. i have no problem with that. i consider myself a true collector, but without never seeing a bowser in person, how would i know.

Lineage is key to the true collector...otherwise I would say that it's just a nicely colored up CAR.

The thing that always gets me is the lineage piece. how does one prove lineage? I'm one of those that buy stuff I like that I think is what its supposed to be. I've never been offered proof of lineage from LFS, Online sellers, or fellow reefers. I have stuff from Jason Fox, Tyree, WWC, & ORA among others and never once have I been offered proof of lineage. I'm not a true collector, just a reefer who buys stuff I like and I don't buy $400 polyps. Everything we buy was once wild....I don't buy into unless you got it from the person who named and introduced it its not real...usually if one wholesaler got it others also could have it so it makes little sense that only one person got it.

I do not own a bowser but based on pics that thing above looks like a bowser to me. How do we prove lineage?

Not saying that I agree with it... in fact, I think Bowsers are nothing more than a nicely colored up CAR. It's just that if he ever tries to sell them to a collector, they'll want to know where he got them and will verify the information to ensure that it will hold the color before they spend well over $100 per polyp.

Ive been having the same issue with my zippers....no idea why

And you are right...unless you've seen one in person you wouldn't really know...I was once on the other side of the debate until I got my hands on one.I also had true CAOs along with Ultra CARs that I got off a buddy.I was spoiled withe the nicer CAR morph because a lot of people were only able to get the crappy strain that doesn't have much yellow if any.I also have a Shazaams and that's how I came to the conclusion that Bowsers not morphed out CARs.There are only a few guys out there that were fortunate enough to obtain a Bowser and successfully kept them. They melted on most people just like the infamous Sopranos. Its funny when I find it funny when I see Bowser threads because it's always the same debate(do a search on Bowsers and you'll find plenty),Bowser or CAR.Then the people that have had or seen one tells the people that never did that they are not the same and even points out the differences, the people still question it saying its just different tank conditions blah blah blah.Thats why I don't or try not to add my $.02 to those threads. Some people just can't be convinced and they have that right to reserve their judgment and I do mine.I really don't care if they believe it or not because I didnt get or want it for them.I want it for me and unless polyps are also their specialty then they can believe whatever they want.

And that brings me to the whole lineage debate.A lot of people like to think that lineage has to do mainly with the sale of a coral and proving it is what it's advertised to be.It is certainly that but to a collector it's also about preserving the integrity of a certain morph(s).If you buy something that looks similar maybe even identical to the untrained eye, and it came from the wild rather than one that's been aquacultured , how do you know if what you paid for will hold color etcetera etcetera.Nobody can legitimately prove lineage and that's why it's up to you as a buyer to do your research. All you have to do is pay attention to threads and see who introduces a coral , who bought the coral if they exposed themselves and how reputable the seller is, it's not rocket science. And if you didn't do your research and get duped then you have nobody to blame but yourself.

There are literally plus or minus a handful of people that were able to keep the Bowsers successfully, they've melted on everyone else and that's what makes them impossible to get.The people that have them do not want to frag them let alone have enough to even think about fragging.I know and can account for everyone who have had or have them so when I see a Bowser pop out of the blue it just doesn't happen. This will be the last time you'll see me rant about Bowsers unless it's to tell you all that I've got one again. Some of you might think I'm crazy for spending and obsessing about this coral but to tell you the truth it would be a great loss to the polyp world if they no longer exist in the hobby and that's why I want one so that I can try and not let that happen. Its to me the Holy Grail of polyps, I can find a true Soprano before I can find a Bowser.

Cheers

So tired...

IT'S THE YELLOW-ORANGE; IT'S KEY, IT DOMINATES THE POLYP ON A TRUE BOWSER (THIS IS EVEN MORE TRUE ON JUVENILE POLYPS. ). IT'S NOT THE SAME ORANGE AS A CAO--IT'S MORE YELLOW-ORANGE. PERIOD.
