What is the key to keeping a torch

I have had my torch for about three weeks now. It hasn't changed much but it hasn't got any bigger. It has a couple of brown spots on the tentacles. Just wondering if it's too high in the tank. I dose kalkwasser and ph is about 8.1 and salinity is about 1.024 everything else looks great just looking for some guidance.

It looks beautiful. I know torches can be slow growers at time. @larky can help you out in that case. What are your tank parameters? Remember euphyillia like a little "dirtier" of water. Everything looks to be happy and healthy!

I find that wall type grow a tad slower than the branch type. Yours look like a wall torch?

I dose fuel 2x per week, and feed Mysis shrimp 2x per week and mine has quadrupled its head count since I got it ~6 months ago. My calcium runs slightly high at 460-520 and dkh (for whatever reason) is lower at 6-8.

I don't dose anything besides 'fuel' and 'phytoplex'. I use coralife salt and do a 15% WC biweekly.
For lighting, I have an Aquatic Life 36" 54 watt LED fixture as well as a 36" satellite plus pro current .5 Watt LED strip (for accent)

My torch/ most of my euphyllia are in the middle/ upper section of my tank and are receiving decent amounts of flow (polyps are always in motion)

I run my salinity a little higher to because I've always been told that you should run it at either 1.025 or 1.026 and your running yours at 1.024 so you might want to up it to either 1.025 or 1.026

I have the same type of torch. Mine is mid level and medium flow so the tentacles are voilently blasting around but definitely moving. I use a jebao pp8 wavemaker and its working great for flow

That's crazy but I thought that corals needed atleast 1.025 to grow right and I didn't know that you could go above 1.026 because that's what the sea salinity is

Flow and light are major keys. I find mine do better in low flow and medium direct light.

Those are extreme cases. The optimal reef is between .022-.025 (for fish) and .025-.028 (for coral) making the optimal salinity in any tank ~1.025

It's easier to read my refractometer at 1.025 because it's a bigger line so that's why I shoot all my tanks at 1.025

I love torch corals, absolutely my favorite coral out there. I currently have two in my 29 gallon tank. My golden torch was my first attempt at keeping them. I bought it as a single head about 5 months ago, and is now at 3 heads. It took me about a month before I found its "happy" spot in my tank. Below are what I found works for me:

Light: Moderate/High. I have the coral placed at the top of my tank, but off to the side, avoiding direct light from my LED.
Flow: Moderate/High. This is another area in which the coral sits in a "higher" flow zone of my tank, but it is not getting directly blasted by a powerhead. Instead I found it likes when the water swirls in various directions.
Food: I feed my coral Reef Roids 3 times a week. I make sure to make a thicker mix and spot feed with an eye dropper.
Salt: Red Sea Coral Pro (5 gallon water change every weekend)

I just picked up my second torch frag in a trade about a week ago. I have found a spot with similar characteristics and look to be getting similar results.

All in all, every coral is different, and will prefer variations in these areas. Don't be afraid to move your coral to a new location, you could always move it back. Hope this helps!
