There is this funky algae stuff in my tank. Can’t find anything about it online or on here. Not bryopsis not hair algae not Dino’s. It forms mats only in my glass and filter. I have not found any on the rocks. It has a single point which a bunch of small “leafs” disperse from like a fern but it’s brown and thin unlike bryopsis. It comes back whenever I scrape from glass plz help

Please provide additional info:

1. How old is the tank?
2. How big is the tank?
3. Do you use a sump, HOB or canister filter?
4. Is there a refugium?
5. Are using RODI water?
6. What kind of lighting do you have and for how long is it on each day?
7. When was your last water change?
8. What is the date of your most recent test results and can you post them?

I’d like a clearer pic of the things, but Id consider fluconazole or reefflux hd. Assuming the stuff isn’t too wiry or feels calcerious.
It’s a mild treatment.

@saltyfilmfolks has probably eaten this stuff in salad...he knows his greens
Tastes like kale.

Tank is three months old
10 gallon
Hob with floss I change once a week and chemipure blue
No fuge
RODI has been used since first day
I am running a block box at 25 percent for 9 hours a day
Last waterchange was on the 21st will be preforming another today
Test results according to decal minutes ago are a ph of 8.2 and nitrates at 20 ppm (I have no other tests atm)

Here’s some stalks on the ground. It’s just puzzling to me because it’s only on the glass. Only algae on the rocks is some green turn and a bit of Cyano that my snail keeps in check. I’m looking at a bigger one and it has some feathery puffs on the stalk it looks like a Christmas tree that flows underwater. There are only like 5 stalks a point

I get the same stuff in my sump from time to time. Never really thought much about it since it’s never made its way to the display

From time to time? Is there any coraltiok that causes it to recede? I would be ok with it if it didn’t take ove a whole wall in 4 days

Ok... you have a new tank which will go through periods of ugliness as the tank matures and bacteria colonies establish.

I would be faithful to my water changes during this time, doing them weekly at 20%(2 gallons).

I would also pull out the Chemi pure elite for the time being. While CPE helps with phosphate removal ( a food source for algae), I am uncertain as to how much of your algae problem is PO4 related.

This usually self corrects. Faithful water changes and manual removal in the mean time.

Interested as well. Had it in my tank and only on the glass. I scraped the walls and kept the lights off for a week and what I couldn’t reach turned white and is still there. It’s getting covered in brown film algae that my blenny eats. Maybe the blenny will finish if off or maybe it will come back, it’s only been a few weeks.
Edit: I was told it was and wasn’t bryopsis so I’m not sure.

You may want to try a Mexican turbo snail. They have helped me with a few algae problems.

If it helps at all, these were my strains of Bryopsis and Reef Flux wiped it out in a week. Didn't touch my Chaeto or Gracilaria. Saw no harm to anything except the Bryopsis. Some was on the rocks while the massive piece was on the glass.
