What is this thing? Is it some sort of seaweed? Or a living organism?

This little hitchhiker came along with some cured pukani dry rock.

For context, I’m about 2 weeks past when I first added rock and RODI water + salt to my tank. Started my fishless cycle with ammonia and Dr Tims on Friday.

So this was wet rock from an LFS or other reefer?

It looks like foraminifera. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foraminifera.

They are harmless. I used to get red and white ones on FiJi live rock. I only have white ones now. If this was dry rock they may just be leftovers and are dead. I've noticed red ones stay red when they are dry.

Thanks! This was wet rock from a reefer who cured it for 6 weeks in his sump. We scaped it, then put it into my tank.
