Strange brown slime that has come and gone in aquarium. What is this brown slime? It does not seem to hurt anything that I know of but, it is very distracting.

Thanks for any help!

Looks like calothrix and will have to be physically scrubbed off with a firm toothbrush and white light intensity reduced

Thank you! I looked over the reefcleaners algae identifier sheet and it seemed to be the closest thing to it. But, I was threw off by the Google microscope pictures for it. I vacuumed it right after I took the picture even though I have done this 8-9 times already…. If I stay on top of it I think it will go away as it has once already.

Can I ask how you came to this conclusion? I have looked at many other post now and it looks similar to Chrysophytes. Anyways I took your advice and scrubbed most of the surfaces. Thank u!

edit: Many had bubbles stuck in them. I don’t mean like the bubble under the skin look of Dino’s. It was much more so on the surface like a clean shinny bubble.

Also I read someone say that chrysophytes are rich in ergosterol something that can be targeted by Fluconazole. If this is correct I will probably go that route because I have byropsis as well.
Thank u!
