What is this brown string like algae and what's the cure for it
This is mainly growing on the sand bed from there pieces get loose and wrap around the corals
tank is a 50gal more than 1 year old
NO3 4 (red sea)
PO4 0.024 (hanna)

Looks like diatoms but could be dinos. Does it get worse throughout the day but marginally better over night?
Early in the morning there is no trace of this algae but when lights come on then it comes on the sand bed

Damnnn its dinos then... first you need to find out what type of dinos it is... stop running any phosphate media or any form of carbon dosing. Get a microscopeto id the dino strand.. suck up some of it and put it under microscrope

It's still pretty early in the game. I recommend raising the phosphates to 0.1 ppm using an inorganic source like KNO3 (Spectrocide stump remover). I am guessing you may have some powerful LED lighting? What is your lighting setup, on time, and intensity?

Radion gen 1 at 55% intensity AB+ SPS schedule 12pm to 4pm ramp up and 10pm to 11pm ramp down, mounted 9.5" high from water surface
Kessil A80 100% for shimmer

I thought stump remover was a source of nitrates, not phosphates?

I use the Plugable brand USB 2.0 microscope with 250X. I think that is the minimum to get a clear image for easy ID.
Plus you can take pictures and videos. The field of focus it really deep too. You can view the front of the tank all the way to the back as you adjust the focus.

Those combined will give a good amount of PAR. I recommend keeping the A80 off for 3 days to see if you can get on top of this before it goes crazy. That should help you get the phosphates up quicker.

Lol. Yeah, you're right. Got my nutrients mixed up. Stump remover for nitrates and Seachem Flourish for phosphates.
