We got this from a private fish guy and the tentacles were 4 or 5 inches long. It has been in our tank for a week and hasn't come out more than this. Can someone please help? I don't want it to die!!

Looks like a "flower pot" or gonipora. Can be receeding for several reasons. Check your water parameters, temps, and salinity. Make sure they are consistently in check. Gonipora can be a touchy coral to keep. Some like to be thrashed around by flow while others prefer a moderate sporadic flow. What kind of flow is yours in?

We have a 700 g/h wave maker moved him a bit to give him a bit of shelter. So from what I'm reading he needs special food ? We were not told that if he does.

They do like to eat a lot and have very small mouths. Try spot feeding with reef chilli. I have one in the corner of my tank in moderate flow and lower light. I've had it for almost a year and the polyps are still long and flowing. I got it at a club neeting as a reffle prize. looked like a rock with some prism like dimples on it. I dipped it and stuck it in the corner of the tank. Within 10 minutes it was extending polyps.
