I picked up a “buy 2 get 1 half off” deal on corals last night.

I got a Duncan, a mushroom and then something I didn’t know what it was but it looked cool!

It appears to be an LPS. The girl at the LFS really had no idea (only one or two guys there know their corals). So I figured I’d ask you guys. Any ideas?

Is it the brown in the middle that makes you think it’s dying? My camera isn’t the greatest but the brown are also polyps/tentacles.

I agree it could be a torch. Which would be fine because I like torches.

What should I look for to see if it’s dying or thriving? (That may be an obvious question, but these are my first corals. Just started the tank in January).

That would be cool!
+1 on galaxea. I will say to be careful as my galaxea has really long sweeper tentacles. Doesn't look like you have anything too close to it, but just be mindful when placing more coral.

That’s a beautiful coral. How much time between Day 1 and today?

That is 5 months. However, it fully opening in my tank after a couple days and then it has been growing pretty steadily since. It's hard to judge in those pictures, but I bet it has doubled in size.

It’s definitely a galaxea. Check out these sweeping tentacles!
