The orange pod / football shaped thing? New aquarium the first week with live rock. The orange “pod” looked vibrant at first but is looking grey since moving the wave maker. The wave maker has been moved back and I’m hoping it will recover. But I would like to know what this is so I can research what I need to do for it to thrive. Any help is appreciated

Sponges will kinda be in between. Not too hard, but not too soft. I’m not positive, but I don’t think sponges like that typically last very long.

It's a sponge, I got a very similar specimen on my live rock. I wouldn't try to do anything to accommodate it. I thought is was the coolest thing, 8 months later after appointing the tank it is sort of just in the way.

Sponge I bet. Sponges will be firm but pliant in texture.

It could be a sea squirt

Sea squirts don't get detritus all along their outside like that as far as I'm aware.

The best way to tell the difference between them though is just to poke it. A sponge won't do much of anything, while a sea squirt will close up its valves.

Thank you... I will do that tonight.

Some do, on the pic I can see a valve similar to a sea squirt, maybe not. to me it just looks like one that is on the way out.

Thank you... I just started my aquarium and welcome all the help I can get.. it didn’t look like this until I moved my wave maker. I noticed it wasn’t doing so good the day after moving the wave maker.. I hope it will make a recovery.

If it is a sea squirt then they are hard to keep, sometimes they just like a tank and be happy, you could always turn the rock in a way for it to get some shade.

I will move the rock to get some shade tonight when I get home.. Thank you
