What is this? Cyano? But hard calcium like

Hi All,

wondering what this growth is on my 3 month old FOWLR tank...it has a calcium like consistancy, when i rub it feels loose stone like! Also growing on sand

Cyanobacteria. Normal in new tanks if tank is old, Keep nutrient levels under control, and don't panic
 
Thanks for the replies @KING KONG @Tanglover1 just to clarify, can cyano be hard and "dusty" rather than slimy...this stuff is like the consistency of chalk

A pink colour algae can be coralline or cyano. Coralline never grow in sand so it is cyano
 
Is your tank is new?
It is quite new yes, 3 months old, fish adding in slowly for last 2 months.
60gal, firefish, mccoskers flasher, blue cheek goby, silver belly wrasse and royal gramma, fish all seem quite happy and feeding well!
