What is this fluorescent green nonsense?

I have been getting fluorescent green patches popping up on my glass as well. Any thoughts? Blue-green cyano maybe? Thanks ahead of time!

I appreciate the quick reply! As I think you probably know, I've been having annoying issues with cyano and I think I'm at the point I'm going to replace my sand bed, because for some reason, and not complaining, but the cyano has left my live rock alone. And I'm not a big fan of using treatments, but would you use chemiclean instead, or possibly both? Believe me, I have tried all the natural ways to get rid of this problem and it just isn't happening...

That's weird. Mine just kinda phased out. went from rock to rock then was gone.
What we dont know for sure is what exactly it is. If you have a microscope Id use it. Its possible its is a slime algae, really hard to say.
You can also try the peroxide test,(spirulina does not respond to chemiclean), you could buy some chemical and test it too in a cup.

That sand is really new isnt it?

I have some new sand that I added a few months ago (aragonite small granule) but a lot of the original sandbed from when I started my tank around August or September of last year is still there. I seem like I have had countless issues with that sand. Also, my RO unit (I think I really need to spend a few bucks to get an RODI unit) has been producing water at about .08). Is that truly a big deal and a possible contributing factor to some of my issues or is that an acceptable level in your opinion?

It depends on the water going in. If you have chloramines it will.(smells a bit like bleach some days)

It could be the old sand, or the new, diatoms, micro fauna fed off of the co2(calcium etc) from the new stuff, esp if uncured.

The deal with tap water and sometimes bottled waters is there's cleaners and preservative etc (not a chemist), that kill some of the beneficial bacterias and microfauna, and the really hardy yucky ones can live through it.
I generally call it a stunted cycle as the nutrints are higher and the coralline is not always formed and visually the algal growths are different. Specifically the tank will look a bit too clean even though its months old.
