Hey y’all. I am seeing a white ring around some of my SPS frags. It’s on most of the frags at the base onto the rock. It’s not dead coral and was wondering if it’s just new growth being laid down. I don’t see any coral on the white areas yet so that’s why I am confused.

Sometimes I see this with acros growing. I've noticed mine deploy a small sweeper which apparently kills everything around it, "prepping" the area for growth. That's for the clear space around the coral. I've also noticed the coral and white area as well when the coral was rapidly growing.

+1 This is quite evident especially when the acro is growing near to or on algae (especially coralline). You will see white and clear areas around the acro which I believe is caused by either sweepers or messentrial filaments. Here’s my monti and acro in action. Notice the bare and whitish discolouration of the algae.
