what is this?? in my sand??

i just noticed this mold-like today. idk what it is. tank is almost a year old, but i added more sand a few weeks ago. my sifters won’t touch it

Do you stir your sand? Could be some sort of bacteria. Almost looks like uneaten pellet food.

my hermits and starfish are quick to the uneaten pellets, i sometimes stir my sand but not often. idk what it is

How did u add the new sand...if not done a little at a time and mixed into the existing sand it could.cause a die off of the micro fauna in the sand and cause a small bacterial bloom like your seeing there....
