What is this in my snail shell?

Today my kid showed me something that was coming out of my snail shell. Not sure I ever seen anything like this. Almost looks like some kind of parasite. Anyone seen anything like this? Its just to the right of his mouth looking at it.

I'm not entirely sure, but I'm wondering if that's the snail's gills.
