What is this under my fish’s eye. Everything was good the first couple days, then he unfortunately died yesterday. Started hiding the day before, but the following day passed. Only thing I can find as a sign of a potential issue. Have a much larger blue line angel that I haven’t seen bully, but he’s bold, so wonder if that’s what happened as well. Any help would be appreciated…

Also, don’t mind the title, was on my phone and it erased part of the title and posted anyways…

It looks like blood under the skin. Is it only on the left side? Is there tissue missing on its anal fin, it looks notched. Is this one of Wen-Ping Su's captive raised ones, or was it wild caught?

Additional background info would be helpful:

Do is see/does fish have little white nodules in its body?

In the future, avoid removing fish from tank and placing on a dry towel which will remove its protective slime coating and available oxygen. I understand your reasoning- pretty fish

It’s only on the 1 side. I actually didn’t even notice the missing tissue, but kind of looks like it or could be the fin pulled in at the back. It’s a captive bred from Bali Aquarich

Unfortunately he is dead, that’s why he was removed. I was taking pictures after to try and uncover what happened. I didn’t notice any white nodules.

O.K., I'm just thinking "damage control" for the other fish. I think this was a bruise and combined with the fin damage, could indicate tankmate aggression. If BOTH gills were inflamed, that could have indicated a disease process.

Sorry to see, those little guys are really cool.....

Thanks for the feedback. I also have a Blueline angel from Poma labs, and he’s not aggressive that I’ve seen, but I’ve also seen he’s not shy and he was quite a bit larger than the regal, so that could be it. 200 gallons tank, so plenty of hiding spots, but maybe not enough for such a small guy.

That's cool that your blueline is doing well though. TR bluelines are the way to go, the wild caught ones have a really poor track record.
