Can someone tell me what this is, if it's ok, and if not how to get rid of it? It's growing around the base of a sponge.

If something pass to close to them do they retract into the tubes ?

It's just a sort of filter feeder not sure of the name I've always had them in my tank.

No..... They just hang out. They are multiplying quickly though. Last week there were just a couple. Now there are 5 or 6.
