Unless you dropped a bunch of expensive coral into a new (immature) system don't sweat this too much. When did you start the system? If it is really new, it could be just an uglies phase. And there can be a dozen ugly phases if you really watch closely.

Here is a crude dino test:
a) get a sample of the gunk into a container with some tank water
b) shake it up super hard so that it dissolves into cloudy water
c) pour that solution through a coffee filter into another jar/glass
d) Place glass under a bright light source for an hour or so
e) If it clumps back together => dinos

Welcome to reefing. I did the same thing. Nitrates 0 and my phosphates hit 0. I thought that's was the way to go. if it's dinos like I think it is, (do what @ScottB says to see if that's what you really have.) my advice is the way I won 2 bouts with it is raised both nitrates and phosphates. Considers Dinos like squatters. If there is nothing in the tank to compete with them they just come in. You always want some nitrate and phosphate. Also, I would stop with the water changing. invest in a UV if possible. Get some bacteria and start dosing it. I used Microbacter. Feed your fish as much as they can eat while trying to raise nutrients. One thing to watch with MB7 is that it will also lower Nitrate and phosphate so follow the directions best as possible. Now, this is just me. If my phosphate gets to 0.08 I don't worry. if my nitrate rises to 10ppm I don't worry. its where you see fit to keep your nutrients but you do need them. The coral actually uses the nutrients to grow along with your lights. My Dinos were so bad I thought i would never win. I won

I also forgot to say run carbon Dino’s release toxins in the water so run carbon once in a while. You can beat them

What color is that gunk under white light? The mats look a little like cyano in that pic.

a darker color and more brown. Also the little whiteish bumps are not the rock but rather bubbles.
