Agree with @DSC reef . They usually have just run their course in my tanks, though you are left with the sharp shell that can poke you.
When they are alive you can put a little dab of super glue at the opening of the tube to kill them. In a few weeks I then use a hemostat to crush the tube at the base and remove what of it I can.
