What is this monti doing?

Got a chunk of plating montipora last week, not sure what it’s doing but I can’t see any polyps. Nothing much is happening to it, it’s not dying, it’s not growing(not expecting it to tbh). Is it happy? Is it open? I can’t tell…

Wish that was true... I wanted to build a massive red platform to complement a long - nosed hawkfish. Took to montis since they can grow fast.

My only SPS is a small piece of Monti', about 2×2 inches. I had two small pieces but one died completely after it lost all colour. The other kept maybe one or two polyps for a few weeks then made a miraculous recovery. For reasons unknown it then receded again but is currently back on the up.
It seems relatively tough considering how it has struggled. Clearly my tank and experience are not there yet but, even in full health, I've not seen any growth for months.

When should I move it into higher light? I left it on the bottom for acclimation. Not sure when it'll be happy.

yeah that's what I wanted to do, I've heard they like it low and it was kept fairly shaded in the source tank, but I want it as a big perch/overhang.

This is the amount of growth of mine in a year and a half. Not super fast grower in my tank. I don’t know how I managed to get my wrass in both pictures.
