I’ve just received the microscope I ordered to find out what is on my sand. I’m sure at first it was dinos and I used a UV + low lights + peroxyde to get rid of them. They seemed to disappear but then some other brown dust appeared. Is it dinos again, diatoms, something else ?

I can’t say I’m impressed with this microscope though. The lenses are not fully transparent and make it hard to read the slides because of the little specs they show. I don’t know if this picture will be good enough. I can’t magnify more than 250 x as I don’t have the tiny square slides (I thought they came with it). Whatever this is isn’t moving.

Thanks for your help.

@ScottB @vetteguy53081 any idea ?

This is the sequel to my dino battle thread you were helping me with.

If they are not moving, it is unlikely they are dinos. Your FTS certainly look like dinos.

That said, we typically magnify at 400X which is the 10X eyepiece and the 40X barrel lense.

Did you try the coffee filter test?

@ScottB yes, I did it before the treatment started, and it looked like dinos.

Except now these appeared after the dino treatment, so it could be something else.

I didn’t buy the small thin pieces that go on top of the slide, so I can’t use the 40X or it will touch the water. I’m still trying to make this microscope work, not very good at it…. Is there a way to use the 40X without the thin glass on top of the slide ?

I’ll try again today.

I don't use the slide covers. And yeah, I've also touched the sample with the lens.

Looks like cyano
