Hey, does anyone have an opinion on what type of algae this is growing on my rock? It is purple, tough and cannot be blown off and I can only remove it by scraping it off with a knife. And any suggestions on how to keep it at bay? Thanks

Take a video while you scrub it. I assume you are talking about the maroon stuff. The Violet underneath is obviously corraline

Yes, I guess you can call it maroon in color. The tank lights shut off for the night so I can’t take a video now, but I can tell you that it doesn’t budge when I‘ve tried to brush it off.

Gelidium?
Yep thats what it looks like to me.
It grows quick.

I looked at the link you sent, thanks. Any thoughts on why it surfaces? High or low nutrients? Lighting?
Just because?

I had that and it went away on it’s own. I didn’t have it as bad as you did.

It grew out of my live rock after almost a year unseen in the tank. Turbo snails ate it all and it never came back.
It grew pretty fast in my nano. Added the turbos and it dissapeared.
