What is this starfish thing???

I bought new live rock today from an established tank. There seems to be quite a bit of these starfish and I’m not sure why they are? Are they good or bad?

Will they get big?

Most of the time they stay about the size of a quarter. They could be babies of another species, which means they could grow up to 8" across, but that's unlikely. I say leave them in.

They are so cute so I was really hoping that they would be harmless, at first I only noticed 3 but now I see at least 5! Thank you

Will they get big?

yes, it will take some time, but they can get weirdly huge!

They will eat good amounts of left over food/ detritus. Is this for a reef tank or fish only?

My old tank had a lot of these. Never grew much, but always good to see them. Before long they will be in your power heads and occasionally be seen out and about. Great little things.

Reef tank, we just got a couple corals today
