Newbie… can’t quite tell what this stuff is growing on my rocks. Doesn’t blow off with a turkey baster (would that mean it isn’t cyano?) and sways in the flow. Sometimes has bubbles on it.

Anyways I know it will resolve with time as the tank comes into balance but just wondering what you all might think it is so I can start taking steps to resolve it.

YouTube link below

Posting some parameter information (Alk, NO3, PO4, etc...) as well as the age of the tank will help with some people to estimate the possibilities.

It could be as simple as green hair algae or more complex, like Chrysophytes (golden looking hair algea like stuff).

Thanks. Here’s some additional info.

Age: got it secondhand, was up for an unknown time frame before I got it. Was only dry rock and two clowns, with underpowered light. I’ve had it running under my care for two months.

8 gallon AIO nano with nano kessil a80 light at 50% strength 10hrs a day mounted 4 inches above waterline. Dosing all for reef daily.

Stocking is only Macroalgae and some small lps

Parameters:

Temp 78
Salinity 35 ppt
Alk 11.2
Calcium 445
Mag 1380
Phos 0.0
Nitrate 0.0
Ph 8.2

Looks like diatoms; definitely not dinos!
