This I’d my first post, so thanks in advance for any help you can give this newbie.

I have a 55 gallon saltwater tank and just noticed this growing on the side of one of the live rock. I’ve never seen it before, but it almost looks like a spider of some sort with a web. Since I’m not sure of what it is I don’t know if it should be removed or can safely stay. Any help is appreciated!

Hi, Denise - and welcome to Reef2Reef!

Do you have any fairy or flasher wrasses? Those guys sometimes spin a mucus "cocoon", similar to a parrotfish, to sleep in overnight. You'll sometimes find it in the morning, but it rarely lasts long.

I agree on a cocoon and below it is an aptasia (which you want to rid of)
