No idea what this is, anyone? is it good or bad?

Scallop. Hard to keep. Usually die in a few months. They are filter feeders and need lots of food.

Flame scallop. They do ok if fed frequently with a variety of live phytoplanktons and kept with nothing that will eat them (most larger wrasses, larger hermit crabs, starfish, etc)

once upon a time they were very popular and seen in every lfs .
survival rate is terrible and always starve to death in captivity

Going to add to the above.

Easiest way to feed is to take a plastic bottle, cut the bottom off, place over the scallop and then squirt the phyto into the bottle. About 1-2 tsb is plenty. Remove the bottle when the water is almost clear inside.

Do this 2-3 times a week.

This is for direct feeding. If you add phyto to you tank regularly, then the scallop should also be fine. Provided you are dosing it heavy.

cool, thanks everyone, I had no idea it was there and looks like it’s been there for awhile, I don’t feed it anything really. No idea where it came from either since I haven’t added anything to the tank in months.

you might have been lucky to have been able to provide a captive home , and not even knowing it’s strict requirements . Many have failed over the years attempting one

I've had one of these for a while. All I've seen are the tentacles. Now I know
It seems to be doing ok with me feeding it

I thought it was bad when I first saw it lol, crazy thing is, I never fed it and not gonna start now if it’s doing good
