Can anyone identify what this slimy looking white stuff is? It looks like something I would find in the bottom of one of my kid's cups after being left in the car all week. It's slowly growing in several different places on one rock, mostly in dimly lit areas.

Thank you!

Poriferan sponge and likely clatherina sponge. To remove/rid of. . . expose it to air or remove with a dental pick or small crochet needle and discard. Best removed outside of the tank in a container of tank water but this one may come off in one piece

Huh, I really didn't think these were sponges. I have some tiny other spots that I thought were sponges, but I would not have guessed this was a sponge.

With it being a sponge, do I need to get rid of it? Is it harmful? Are there fish that would consider this a tasty treat?

This type can be evasive and best removed while you can. They favor shaded areas of tank

Next time I'm in there, I'll pull that piece of rock and work on it. Thank you for the quick information and replies.
