Nitrates are 5 and phosphates are .002

How old is the tank and did you start with dry or live rock? This is my theory in these situations: a newer tank has something take hold because it becomes the boss as there is little competition.
Second theory is: a well-established tank is treated for something like GHA or cyano and it gives the green light for an unknown to take hold.

How I’d battle is, try to reestablish your biodiversity. Don’t let one thing own your rock.

No idea what that stuff is. Does it blow off with a turkey baster? If it was my tank, I’d scrub it off and dose bacteria and hope they’d take hold of the rock and keep it at bay.

It can be scrubbed off but not blown off

It looks like bryopsis with dinos entangled.

I have had bryopsis in another tank this stuff scrubs of like dust. Reminds me of the titanic down at the bottom of the ocean like dusty algae

I just noticed u have done two ports. I'm pretty sure it from the carbon dosing. Do u use activated carbon?

Yes about 3 to 4 cups I fill a whole brs reactor 2 inches from the top I run gfo. I have a nyos 220 skimmer. The stuff is only growing to the new rock and the rock was seeded in my frag tank months before with no issues. Both systems are tied together same lighting.

When I had a small alk swing a few corals rtn this stuff grew on the skeleton but when the coral grew back it killed it off.

It was dry rock but it was sitting in the frag tank for at least 3 months got lazy and did not want to rescape tank

Came back within about 15 hours not as bad though.
