What is this worm like thing burrowing into wall hammer

So my friend sent me some pics on text after finding a hole in his wall hammer. Although he has never fragged a wall hammer He decided to frag it for better or worse to hopefully save it.
He found what looks like a worm with a hammer type head. Said the hole was the size of a pea and the burrow went down to the base and back up again to the flesh. The pic of the hammer out of water shows superglue to protect the cut flesh

Does anyone have any idea?

Break it off at the base and discard- it’s a peaty vermetid snail

Well it was cut out and tossed. I thought vermetid built a hard shell outside. So they burrow also?

Yeah, they do. That looked like a peanut worm, which are beneficial and most likely living in a hole that was there not burrowing into the coral.

Also for what it’s worth, the wall hammer is doing great after cutting it and using superglue to act as a skeleton to hold everything internal in place!
