What is this worm type thing?

I have this stuff growing all over my tank and I can’t figure out how to exterminate it. Admittedly I haven’t tried much, other than brushing it away and sucking it up in a water change. But it always comes back.

it looks like a worm sort of thing. It’s growing all over my power head, all over my rocks, and grows on my grass.

others have said maybe it’s detritus or a precipitate, but it doesn’t blow away in the direct path of a power head.. it forms in the path of them actually. It forms onglass that is in the path or my flow. It forms underneath my power head. It’s something alive. It grows over top of coral and has killed a lot of my gsp.

What is it? How can I get rid of it?

Honestly it looks like sand/detritus but you are saying it cant be blown away by a power head. It could be precipitate from calcium/alkalinity (calcium carbonate) which typically dosent blow away but solidifys on objects especially heaters and pumps

Even on the bottom though? And on glass? It doesn’t seem like it’s forming consistent with a precipitate. I don’t really see it on my sand either, wouldn’t a precipitate form and settle everywhere from top down?

Well I mean I haven’t witness it grow since it’s slow. So I don’t really have a good answer for you. Idk if I’ve noticed it grow by kind of stretching out or if it just appears. Maybe some of both

Its a bacterial bloom turning into hair algae.
Take note of your phosphate level and also reduce white lighting a little. n Are you using tap or well water ?
