What is this yellow stuff beneath my zoas

The palys were closed up before lights on this morning and I saw a patch of yellow stuff. When they opened, all but a tiny bit was covered.

What the heck is this?

Definitely sponge.

I thought it might be a sponge. No idea how it came to be in my tank. How do I get rid of it? Or do I let the palys fight it out

It's a common sponge in reef tanks. Good sign actually. I never bother to remove it.

I actually like that sponge in our tank but if your concerned about the palys, tweezers will work at removing the sponge.

thanks all. I'll leave it for now. The palys seem to be okay and they are spreading anyway. Maybe the sponges will spread down to where the giant palys are spreading and choke those... My h ubby's favorites....

You can also just scrape them off with a finger nail.

waiting on my new galaxy s9+ with a better camera! Comes on Monday. Hope it is a lot better or else I'm gonna want a camera just to take fish pics.... Try telling that to your non fish friends...
