We recently, in January, were given a 55 gallon salt tank complete with coral. We have already gone through bristle worms and flat worms, thanks to the purchase of a yellow corris wrasse those are GONE. But while looking today I noticed two yellow growths on my coral. Are these possibly sponges? Are they ok to leave in the tank?

Hopefully I attached the picture right

Thanks,

Janet

Yellow sponge most likely. Should be OK.

Another thing - bristleworms are a good thing. They are a harmless detrivore (feed on dead and decaying matter) and are a great part of your clean up crew. I have a yellow coris as well that's cleaned everything in my tank. Because I am just about finished adding frags, I'm going to be trading him in for a Royal Gramma so I can get some micro fauna back in my tank.

I've been told by several people they are bad for the tank, that they can actually burrow into the joints of the tank. That is where ours seemed to hang out at. They were inside the return that is on the back of our tank and had actually started finding their way into the sealant around the edges of the enclosure and around the piping :-( . They never went into the open tank, but they were well on their way to causing a bad problem.

I think it depends on who you talk to and your comfort level for having them in the tank. I heard a few people say they are beneficial :-)

This is a nps songs type I have it in clusters on the edges and undersides of a bunch of my rock.. Had it for years never harms anything.. Except when you go to move a rock.. And it's welded to the next rock with the stuff [emoji14]
