Ok so I found 3 of these snowflake looking bunches in my rocks. Each end had a small white ball on them. I touched them and they don't retract like an aiptasia or polyps. Tank had only had fish in it for approx 1.5 months. Live rock been there a few months. Any feedback is appreciated [HASHTAG]#reefsquad[/HASHTAG]

Yup ball anemone, very powerful sting but in my experience they prefer low low light and have never upset my coral. They're mostly under my rocks or in dark crevices. I don't have many and I kill them when I can! There is one that grows to the size of a golf ball and is considered a desired specimen but yours is not that variety. I remember when I first got mine they were hitchhiking under an open brain coral and they lived under it happily!!

Yes I'm going to take it out and scrub it. I'm guilty of over feeding :/. ( I've stopped) It's the only rock with it but my hermits love it. If it doesn't work I'll remove it. I'm not worried about the snowflake thing it's just beautiful and would love to know what it is

It's a ball anemone or strawberry anemone. I have them all about my tank. They'll spread but have never seemed to bother any of my corals. They do prefer to stay in lower light. I wouldn't refer to them as a bad thing necessarily but they will take space that coral could otherwise inhabit.

You really do not have to intervene, they can get out of hand in heavily feed tanks. Personally I have never seem them become seriously invasive.

It's best to address them in a way that keeps them from reproducing at plague levels! I use Kalkwasser paste it's cheap and works great. It comes in powder form mix it to the consistency of toothpaste and cover the nem. Be careful because large amounts of it clouding up your water column will cause ph swings avoid that and it's very safe! I'd run some gfo for that algae

From what I have heard they don't live long in the home tank not sure on the validity of that I had some in the beginning they went away through no help of me so take it as you may but you can always use superglue and just glue over them

As for the algae I'm sure the clean up crew will take care of it eventually are you running the lights a long time per day? That normally promotes algae growth

Just stop feeding him ; ). Lol I had them in my 120 they would spread because I too am an over feeder. Phew got that off my chest. When I cut back all but a few that had prime locations to catch food disappeared.

I agree with tahoe, ive had 1 in the middle of my zoa colony for over a year, and it only split into 2. Im 90% positive they are not photosynthetic so i dont think theyll be reproducing unless your constantly feeding it

Lol loved your response !! Whew!! I have a timer on my lights so they do as the brain tells it to. So many on t5, so many blue , so many dark. But it's that one small rock out of 160 lbs of it. Too bad about the anemone. They're really pretty

I knew they weren't eggs, was close with the hydroids but I ain't a nem guy so that put me on a unknown path.
