I have at least 4 of these worms in my tank. They are living inside the holes in my live rock and under the live rock. They come out every time I feed. I believe they are bristle worms. If so, will they hurt my fish or invertebrates? BTW I discovered that there is a Reef2Reef app. Awesome. Now I can check my alerts while I am at work...lol

Bristleworms. Harmless detritivore. Don't grab them bare handed, though. They have spines that are like fiberglass and hard to remove.

As long as they are harmless I will leave them be. I like finding new hitchhikers in my tank. Thankfully my peppermint shrimp have gotten rid of the glass anemone that came on a piece of live rock I purchased. I am still new to this hobby and so far I am loving it...

After got into the hobby, my wife got hooked because of watching the tank at night and seeing all the crazy weird things that come out :)
so much fun stuff.

I am the same way. I love the unusual. I don't like killing living things so if it wont hurt I will just leave it be. Now I am trying to decide what fish to add. I have shrimp, a goby, an urchin, and hermit crabs and snails. The goby stays hidden in his little cave and only comes out to eat. I'm hoping that will change after I get my hands on a pistol shrimp that he can pair up with. I need something that will swim around and be compatible with what I already have in the tank. Decisions decisions....

I got a scallop and the bristle worm got it. Expensive mistake, just be sure you know what you can get with bristle worms. My wife was so upset, I had to clean all my love rock out lol

I have another question.... I'm sure it's a dumb question but heck, here goes. What the heck are these little white things. They are hard and to remove them I had to scrape them off with my finger nail. They were not there last night so they just popped up. My turbo snail doesn't eat them. .

Ok one more question. I had three tiny starfish and they have disappeared? Could my banded shrimp, my peppermint shrimp or the bristle worm have eaten them? I kinda liked having them as part of my CUC. :(

Spirorbid worms. Sessile filter feeding worms. They make those little calcareous tubes.

Are they bad for my tank? Should I scrape them off? Will my mandarin eat them? Guess it's time to do some research. Thanks for the info.

They're harmless. Nothing really eats them except maybe small wrasses. They have that hard tube that deters most predators and they're small enough that big guys won't really bother with the usually. I usually scrape them off. Your tank has thousands of them in the rocks and sump.

In regards to the starfish, what kind were they? Asterina hitchikers, or ones you bought?

Asterism. One of my favorite hitchhikers. Lol

These bristles are harmless. They should not bother anything unless its already dying. I would bet the scallop was on its way out already. Alot of blame in this hobby is given to creatures in the wrong place at the wrong time. :( just my opinion. And on rare occasion an exceptionally lg specimen might cause trouble. But it would have to be very large. 1' or >

The tiny stars are most likely hiding. Couldnt get rid of them if ya wanted... lol not dangerous most of the time. There are claims of some types eating zoas. But ive never had it happen. I have tons and alot of zoas

Some do eat zoas, for sure. I think there are 2 varieties. I've had them do damage to otherwise healthy colonies. (Not hijacking thread :-) )

Thanks everyone. I'm a let them be if they cause no harm kinda gal. One reasons I love this tank is discovering new creatures. I want things to be as close to natural as possible. That's why I have peppermint shrimp. I wanted to get ride of the glass anime that came on my live rock.

If you haven't done it yet, get a flashlight with a red filter and check out your tank in the middle of the night. All sorts of stuff crawls out after the lights go out.

Boy the bristle worms in my tank are not the least bit shy. I turn off filter etc off when I feed because I am keeping a close eye on my mandarin and I don't want all the food being sucked up by the filter. I had at least 4 worms come out of the rocks to eat. Working on finding a red filter for my flashlight. Can't wait.

Found a bunch of these on my filter cartilage. Can anyone tell me what they are before I put them back in my tank?
