So I looked into my tank with a flashlight and noticed that my frogspawn has part of its base almost shedding off with a small gap between it and the skeleton underneath it. But its photoreactive to my flashlight and quickly closes up like a tridacna clam. I have no idea whats up

I couldn’t get it on video but heres a pic

I'm honestly not sure. I've never had one but I assume it could move if it wanted.
Whatever I have looks exactly like what the OP has, but it's on the shell of a snail and has always been there. It opens and closes but has never left its spot. I'll try to get a picture for comparison to the OP's.

Maybe a type of abalone? Following to find out, very interesting

Maybe, but the piece that is sticking out seems to be part of the base as it is directly coming off of the base. Doesn’t look like one

I think I bothered “it” too much with the light, its partly closed up. I’ll take more pics in the morning and i’ll try to get a video of it quickly closing up.

The frogspawn is fine, I just turkey bastered it to make the polyps recede so the gap is more visible.

It’s hard to visualize but the gaping skeleton literally acts like a tridacna clam like when you wave your hand over a tank and the clam quickly closes up.

Could it be a type of slipper limpet/univalve
