What is this

So I picked a few small pieces of dry shelf rock to attach my corals to and after this piece was in the water for a little bit I noticed this soft mushroom like object. Is it possibly some type of mushroom coral and if so I would assume since it was dry rock it’s dead? Disregard the nosy snail. TYIA

If it was dry rock it is likely dead whatever it was.... The snail is just cleaning it up for ya..
