About a month ..it was a used saltwater tank and had about 4 inches of water and it had the tan whatever already. Then I made salt water and its growing crazy. I suspect diatoms...

Diatoms and still diatoms most likely. Would be helpful to know your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings

Can we get a better picture? Looks kinda like brown algae? Meaning you could have high phosphate levels high nitrate levels low oxygen and poor lighting schedule. How often are your lights on for how long? Have you done water changes since the water was “used” and left for no telling how long.

I just got the parts to make ro water and am going to do a %90 water change and scrape off all i can.....running dark for now.

I would suggest try a three day dark period then try and make sure your rodi water is at 0 tds.

Yea you need pure water, rodi. RO is good for freshwater

Also what salt mix are you using?

I did the 3 day dark, with ro.water changes got a mag cleaner and today got a hob..skimmer no more brown/tan stuff
