What is this?

So I just setup a 50 gallon tank about 3 months ago. I put a lot of live rock in the tank. I started to notice snails appearing in the tank. I also found a weird star looking thing on my walls and floating around on the sand. Check out the pic below. There's a bunch in the tank now. Not sure what this is can anyone help please....thanks! I need to know if this can be harmful to my fish/ tank environment.
