This Carpenter's Wrasse has been in my QT since April 9 with a couple of Ochre Striped Cardinals. I started hyposalinity treatment on the group and they've been at 1.009 sg since April 16. About a week into hyposalinity, the wrasse broke out in what I thought was ich. He had the white grains mostly around his head and on some of his fins. He was in bad shape for a couple days, spending most of his time lying in hiding spots looking dead, but jumped up to eat when I fed the tank. He seemed to recover somewhat and be back to swimming in the water column regularly, but for the last two days he looks right dead and has this white stuff on his dorsal fin and a bit around his head. He is still breathing and his eye moves to track me. Every once in awhile the current will roll him on his back and he will right himself again.

I would have thought that ich should have cleared out of his system by now given that he has been in hypo for 17 days now. Am I dealing with something else here? Might this be velvet? The two cardinals in the same tank haven't exhibited symptoms of anything yet. I know that hypo won't kill velvet though, just slow it down.

So you have any antibiotics on hand? I would do a round of a triple antibiotic type med. Kanamycin is a good start. Hope he pulls through.

Unfortunately fish meds have been made illegal here in Canada and all I have left in my supply is a single bottle of Copper Power. I could get a hold of organic products or things like Ruby Reef Rally but that's about it until the border restrictions are lifted and I can make a shopping trip south.

Even like Marycin at petco type place? Sorry, not sure what else to do. I would not use copper, but I never use copper. :)

Any kind of antibiotics now need to be prescribed by a vet here, and none of the vets near me will write prescriptions for fish. Apparently people were buying fish antibiotics and using them on themselves or something...

I've decided to try doubling up with Melafix and Pimafix. The combination is supposed to cover both fungal and bacterial external infections. They're probably not the ideal products, but they were all I was able to find locally.
