hello I am new to the forum. I have been in salt water tanks for 8 years and just recently upgraded my nano 15g to a 45g. My 8 year old female clown seems to have some discolouration near the tail. saw this today was def not there yesterday. Anyone have an idea what this is?

Could be an infection or sting -- how quickly did this onset? Gradual or sudden you think?

I am thinking sudden because was not there yesterday. she did dig a lot in the sand today with her tail...almost looks like the scales rubbed off. if it is bacterial, what are my treatment options? for meds right now I have ich-x paraguard and Prazipro.

Appears to be bacterial infection. Verift water quality and you can add melafix which aids with skin issues well.

okay perfect. is there anything else other than melafix I should add? more frequent water changes or other meds like ruby reef rally?

Just keep an eye on it. Should be ok. Again water quality important. Assure no or low ammonia and water change after melafix wouldnt hurt unless ammonia/nitrate is up, then change right away

thank you so much for the help!!!! I did a 25% water changer tonight and will get melafix tomorrow. I am guessing I should turn off the skimmer for the time I am treating?

yes.

If it doesn't turn reddish or worsen (grow in size) I'd leave it. Feed well, keep water quality high. Treatment for infections should be administered in a QT
