What is this?!

I noticed a weird pyramid looking thing in the sand and thought nothing of it. It stayed there for a few days and I thought it was unnatural. So i poked it and realized it wasn't just sand rather a weird spongey stuff. Any idea what this is? Is it a bad sign for my tank? I am worried as this is my first tank and im new to the hobby.

It was in one piece and i broke it apart and it felt squisy and spongey. It was about the size of a quarter.

I generally leave them unless theyre evasive. as stated- Harmless filter feeders
