Hey everyone, I’m still new to learning all the different types of corals and while I was at my LFS earlier I saw what I believed to be a plate coral and thought he would be perfect in my 5g, I double checked that it was in fact a plate coral and the employee assured me it was, however the guy who rang me up said this was a montipora. Now at this point im not leaning on either because it doesn’t have LPS like a plate coral (nor a mouth) but it also isn’t branching and layered the way a montipora does (it also has strange bumps throughout it, not completely flat) does anyone know what SPS this is? I’m scared my tank won’t be good enough for him :(. On the plus side he came with two stomatella snails for free ✨

Also in case anyone asks:
5g Pisces cube (no added flow)
1.025 salinity
Nitrates- 0
Nitrites 0
Ph- 8.2
Temp 76
I’m dosing the aquarium with Red Sea AB+, aquavitro fuel, ions, calcification, 8.4 & Kent purple up.
the tank has been cycled for 2 months, and I feed with a small amount of reef roofs mixed with oyster feast

with adding all of the above ,would assume nitrate is present

You know what?? I think you’re right. I completely forgot about the chalice coral. Ahh I don’t think my tank is going to be a good fit for him :( this sucks
Chalice is technically a lps .
They don’t require extremely high light like some sps but they like stability .

I just tested my water again, nitrates are still at a 0, I’m sure it might be around 2 or 3 considering the new addition, I’m buying the hanna test instruments so I’ll update once I have those!

Yes they’re the LPS twin of montepora haha, but sadly they usually need an established tank of at least a year to truly thrive and I’m not meeting that quota :( perhaps my LFS will take him back

Is it looking stressed out or are you just afraid it will decline?

I usually only apply the 1yr rule to SPS. Chalice are pretty low maintenance and that is a good sized chunk. I'd say keep it unless it's exhibiting signs of stress.

What other coral and fish for you have?

I’m just afraid it will decline, but I might do that. Once it shows too much stress or unhappiness I’ll see if my LFS will take him. I only have one other coral it’s a Jack olantern leptos :) no fish
