I'm not new to reef tanks but I see something in my reef I'm unfamiliar with.
I have 4 small spots of this stuff.

What is it?

I was thinking some kind of algae but I've never seen anything like this before.
I don't have an algae problem in this tank at all.
I'm stumped with this one.

The pics are very close up pics as the spots of whatever this is are very small.

Anyone know what this stuff is?

Looks like a spawn of Pocillopora or Stylophora. Do you have either of these in your tank or did the person who had the live rock before you have either of these corals?

I'm the original owner of my rocks.
Never had pocillopora but I have stylos.
I've never had good luck with stylos or birdsnest coral for some reason though I can keep higher end acros with no problem.

You were right.
I have a LARGE pocillopora that I always thought was a stylo.
i have small turfs of this stuff all over the reef tank.

How much of a problem can this turn out to be?
