what is this?

what is this thing? there are a few of them on my clove polyp rock. hydroids? worms? they seem to have calcareous tubes that they duck into when disturbed.

I'm not able to make out what you're referring to but the description sounds like vermetid snails or feather duster worms.

Can you point out or circle the pest in the image?

Looks like a worm related to feather dusters. If it retracts very quickly, its not a vermetid. If the tube feels a little rubbery, it's not a vermetid. Both of those attributes would probably indicate this type of worm. They can get a little out of control.

both of those things sound about right. i doubt it's a vermetid. i do see what i'm sure is a type of hydroid near it though
