Sponges. Cannot remember the exact name, but they can be an annoyance to corals if there is enough silica in the tank to promote fast growth. Not sure if this should go in algae or hitchhiker thread but trying here first.![]()

No coral yet, but should I do anything with them? It's only on one rock.Sponges. Cannot remember the exact name, but they can be an annoyance to corals if there is enough silica in the tank to promote fast growth.
I have tons of sponges in my tanks, but some have annoyed zoas so I remove. This is a your call situation. Removing them will hurt nothing and leaving them could hurt nothing. No coral yet, but should I do anything with them? It's only on one rock.
I'll leave them. I want as much biodiversity as I can get.I have tons of sponges in my tanks, but some have annoyed zoas so I remove. This is a your call situation. Removing them will hurt nothing and leaving them could hurt nothing.
If it was me, I would leave them and deal with them if they became an anooyance. I am all about biodiversity though.
To remove, stop all water flow, take a syringe and fill with 3% hydrogen peroxide, then gently squirt them with it. Move hand slowly from area to area. Let sit 5 minutes, then take a small hose and start siphon. WHile the siphon is going into a bucket, brush it off with a tooth brush. After that is done, top off tank with new SW and turn everything back on.
