Assure you dont have excess silicates in the water whether from water itself or expired Di resin cartridges as these thrive off silicates and favor dark, low flow areas of tank. They soon dissolve especially as silicates are reduced

So I do use an rodi unit and my tds checker is 0ppm could I still have a silica issue? Could this be this reason I can’t get away from this breakout?

If your cartridge is becomming aged or color has changed (anion turns dark), its time for a change as you are then likely leaching silicate with water fills

Ive maybe got 4 good uses out of it around 20 gal tops so I still have some life in it could it be because I run a HOB filtration sorry for the questions lol

HOB shouldnt affect it but having these sponges not abnormal

Pineapple sponges will come and go, and they will control their own population through available resources. Most of us have had them at some point or another.
