Hello,
I am not sure what to do to get rid of this, nor what it is.
I have been fighting it for several months now. These frags were completly clean 4 days ago when I scrubbed them all down along with all the racks and everything in the tank.

The system they are in a a 50 lowbowy (sps) tied together with a 40 breeder (LPS) and the sump is a 40 breeder.
I have a skimmer, filter socks, 3 kinds of macro algae. run carbon most of the time.
adding uv right now.

Hanna all in one tester.
ALk 10.7
calcium 419
Mag 1520
Nitrate 5
Phosphate 0 ultra low test. Ii know its low I was droping it to try to fight the algae normaly its 5-10 ppb

I have scrubbed every squar inch of the tanks 4-5 times and do a water change after to get rid of as much of it as possible but always comes right back fast.

I have

Just a disclaimer that I'm still a bit newby so take what I say with a grain of salt.

I'm guessing it's either dinos or some type of hair algae.

If it's dinos then I'd suspect it's some combination of new tank syndrome, low bio load, too high nutrient export or nutrient imbalance in general.

If Hair algae then I'd suspect you either don't have adequate clean up crew, or it's some type of algae that CUC doesn't eat...

So... what do you have for clean up crew? Snails, lawnmower blenny, tank may be a bit too small for tangs. Also how old is the tank?

Good luck with the issue hope I can help trouble shoot!

I would say its not dinos.
Tank is about 4 years old. Clean up crew is limited since its a frag tank. but there are turbos, astreas, blue leg hermits, cleaner shrimp, lawnmower, six line wrasse, sailfin tang. I feed the system a lot as between the two tanks there are a lot of corals and there are more fish in the LPS 40 breeder that is plumbed with it as one. turbos, astreas, blue leg hermits, cleaner shrimp, Purple tang, Anthias, lawnmower, chromis, and a six line.
Spent the day cleaning the sps frags today again and added a uv that I had laying around.
not much grows in the LPS tank just a little on the glass on back.

It is more clear color then gold. It does not blow off, most of it comes off with toothbrush fairly easy. But some strands are not so easy. The 50 lowboy has 2 2k gyres and a 3 generic powerhead.
