Newbie here! I have had my tank up since Aug and besides more then enough fish sacrificing learning lessons, it is going ok.

My question is there seems to be 101 different "get rid of gunk and make the water sparkle" products. Can you use too many?

I started using Vibrant for Saltwater Aquariums. It seems ok at dose 2 but it isn't getting rid of the brown hair algae I'm still fighting. Can I add in another product?

Thanks!

If you have hair algae id try a sea urchin or two. My decorator urchins Keep my tank spotless! Vibrant works but lead my tank to dinos. Then i had to spend 500 on a big uv sterilizer. I wouldn't be dosing too much to get rid of algae.

One is too many :) Most claims about you needing an additive to get rid of gunk prey on your ignorance. The stuff they are selling you likely already lives in your aquarium.

Well first off after only doses of your glint gonna see much if anything .

second, magic potions in a bottle often fail and/or only lead to other issues, it’s a domin effect. So good luck

I’d focus on natural remedies and create a balanced tank.

Thanks! That's great advice.

Welcome to r2r! Do you have a nitrate test kit? If so which brand and what is/has it been reading? Have you tested anything else?

Reduction of white light or even blackout has been my first recourse.
Pulling by hand along with that has helped. For hair algae, simple hydrogen peroxide at 1.5 ml per 10 gallons has been effective
Is your tank at or near a window ?

Phosban reactor helped me, and the best water quality possible. I ran it until my levels of phos were down then never had a problem again.

Yes, a few windows. Thanks for the tips I will give them a go.

Vibrant works on brown algae, but only if you have nitrate and phosphate under control.

Vibrant bacteria can't out compete anything if there's a surplus of nutrients.
