I saw this the other day but thought it was just holding onto a piece of mysis, but it clearly has gotten worse. What is it and what do I need to do? It's still eating but if it gets worse I'm assuming it won't be able to. Sorry if the pictures are hard to see.

I have a sixline that has a similar issue. It started as a small white lump on it mouth and grew into a large white lump, nearly covering his mouth.

Figured he was a goner for sure since I couldn't catch him to take a closer look. That was about a year ago. Since that time the lump/growth has gotten bigger but he seems fine otherwise. He basically learned to eat out of the side of his mouth.

I'll try and snap a pic of him when the lights come up to see if what this Sixline has look the same as your firefish.

That's better but still hard to make out details. Can you describe what it looks like up close? Also have you recently glued anything down in the tank?

Other possible culprits could be an infection or lymphocystis.

@HotRocks @ngoodermuth @4FordFamily and @Big G may have some insight

Weird! But yeah I'd love to see the sixline and compare.

And again, sorry about the pictures. I haven't recently glued anything, although I have had a clownfish bite some glue before so I know that happens lol. I guess it kind of just looks like a growth on the lower part of its mouth. Was doing some more digging and found some threads on "mouth rot". I suppose that could be what I'm dealing with.

It's hard to clearly see. Is the growth cottony or cauliflower like in texture?

I would say it appears cauliflowery, but I really am having a hard time getting a good look. I took some SLIGHTLY clearer pictures...but still don't know how much it will help.

EDIT: actually those really aren't any clearer lol sorry.
