What is wrong with these fools?!

The fines are about the same as having a couple rock fish citations.. Makes no sence they should have steeper fines and suspend his captains lic.
 
As somebody who works in the industry with a close relation to these vessels and thier state of the art navi systems, there is no other explanation for this circumstance other than operator error. The damage to cargo alone will be in the hundreds of millions, not to mention the priceless damage to the ecosystem. These ships do enough damage to the environment under normal operating capacity as is. Things like this should never happen and the captain (and his chief crew members) should all be held accountable.
 
I believe that is one of the largest barrier reefs in the world ....3rd maybe... somewhere in fiji which is home to tons of hard coral and rare fish!
